Paul Nelson and AP Reporting Leaders in several Utah cities say they're worried about too many "ones" on the ballot.
There's a lot of attention over state Referendum 1, about school vouchers. But that's not to be confused with Salt Lake City's Proposition 1.
"We've had a few people that when we asked them if they're aware of Proposition 1, they've said, ‘Yes, I'm voting against that,' thinking that it's vouchers," explained Salt Lake Police Lt. Melody Gray.
Gray says Proposition 1 will fund police and fire buildings.
She says when she heard that their proposition would have the same number as the state referendum, she knew there would be confusion. "We've even considered seeing, you know, if it was possible to change our number," Gray said.
Voters in Davis County have several items labeled "1" to choose from as well.
The county has Opinion Question 1, which is a county issue about transportation.
In Syracuse, the city has a proposed Referendum 1, which deals with how the city government is run. That, again, can be confused with the state's Referendum 1.
Voters are urged to check their ballot carefully before casting a vote for or against "1".
