SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Campus police at the University of Utah are cracking down on alcohol-related crimes.
Liquor-law and drunken-driving arrests near the University of Utah more than doubled last year as campus police officers stepped up their patrols around the school.
Newly released crime statistics show that campus police made 220 drunken-driving arrests in 2006, compared to 93 the previous year. Other drinking-related arrests such as disturbing the peace saw a similar increase last year.
University of Utah Police Chief Scott Folsom says most of the arrests happened between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m.
Folsom added that more tickets were given on Friday and Saturday than the rest of the week, including up to 40 people nabbed for underage drinking at each football game.
