OREM, Utah (AP) -- A $1 million donation from one of Utah's largest construction companies will develop a new academic center at Utah Valley State College.
The Clyde Institute of Construction Management will offer associate and bachelor's degrees in construction management.
The donation from the Clyde Companies will be disbursed over five years. It's being matched by Phoenix philanthropist Ira Fulton for a total of $2 million.
The money will build additional construction and computer labs and develop new academic programs. Salaries for two or three new professors will also be funded.
UVSC -- which next year becomes Utah Valley University -- hopes to begin offering new associate degrees by 2008. Bachelor's degrees will follow in 2009.
The Clyde Companies own Geneva Rock, W.W. Clyde & Co., Sunroc, Beehive Insurance and Gorge Rock. Company president Wilford Clyde is a former chairman of UVSC's Board of Trustees.
