MILLCREEK — Police were looking Monday for a man who robbed a cellphone store at gunpoint — immediately after using his own credit card to make a purchase.
About 3:40 p.m. Friday, a man entered a cellphone store at 3205 S. 1305 East and after shopping for about an hour, attempted to buy a couple of cellphones and a blue tooth, said Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal.
The man's credit card, however, was declined.
The man reacted by picking up the items and informing the store he was taking them. A store clerk by the door asked the man if he was really going to do that. The man responded by pulling out a gun and pointing it at the clerk, Hoyal said.
Because employees had already tried using his credit card, they identified him as Robert John Novelli, 44. Hoyal said detectives were able to determine the man used his own credit card and not one he stole.
Novelli already has a warrant out for his arrest from Arizona for robbery. He was last seen driving a grey Toyota Tacoma. Anyone with information can call Unified police at 801-743-7000.
