Gene Kennedy Reporting Larry H. Miller's future megaplex suffered major damage last night.

Fire broke out at the building, which is still under construction at 11400 South Bangerter Highway in South Jordan. This could mean a set-back.

The theater is slated to open by October. That deadline may have to be pushed back because this almost-finished building now has thousands of dollars in damage.

The official cause of the fire is still under investigation, but at this point the deputy fire chief believes a worker may have accidentally started the fire. A welder was installing stadium seating when a foam block went up in smoke.

Fire fighters got the call just before 7:30 last night. Several agencies responded so the fire wouldn't get out of hand. Once they arrived they put it out quickly.

Another reason for the big response? Firefighters needed an extra hand searching the entire building, theater room by theater room.

Two people were injured in the fire, one worker who suffered from smoke inhalation and a firefighter who had a cut to the hand. Both were taken to the hospital but their injuries were not serious.

Nonetheless, this fire will cost the company thousands in damages. Exactly how much, the deputy fire chief wasn't sure last night, but we are looking into that.

Again, this 20 screen movie theater was supposed to open by October, but that deadline may have to be pushed back.
