LEHI -- The first section of the Mountain View Corridor opened to drivers in Utah County Saturday.

The three-mile stretch of road at 2100 North in Lehi is just part of the effort to provide an east-west connection between I-15 and Redwood Road. It features two new bridges, a bike path and a walking trail along the Jordan River.

"Opening this first section of Mountain View Corridor is remarkable, and we are thankful to everyone who participated in today's event." said project director Teri Newell in a news release. "Whether someone lives next to 2100 North or in the surrounding communities of Lehi, Saratoga Springs and Eagle Mountain, this road will benefit them greatly by improving east-west access from Redwood Road to I-15."

Hundreds of residents turned out to celebrate with UDOT at a charity fun run and community barbecue. Proceeds went to several local charities, including North Point Elementary School, the Hess Cancer Foundation, the Boys and Girls Club of Utah County and Anything for a Friend.

Work is currently being done on a 15-mile portion of the corridor in Salt Lake County from Redwood Road to 5400 South.

When completed, the 35-mile freeway and transit system will serve commuters along the west sides of Salt Lake and Utah counties.
