SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A 1,600-pound pumpkin grown by a Utah man has shattered the state record by almost 500 pounds.
The Utah Giant Pumpkin Growers association say the winning pumpkin in their annual competition Saturday in Lehi, Utah, was one of four that broke the previous state record of 1,169 pounds.
Matt McConkie of Mountain Green, Utah, grew the winning pumpkin as well as the second-largest pumpkin, which weighed 1,338 pounds.
McConkie held the previous state record, which he set last year.
Other pumpkins breaking the previous state record weighed 1,182 and 1,172 pounds.
