SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The state may appeal a jury verdict that gave a Woods Cross family $5.5 million for their property needed to complete the Legacy Parkway.
That's more than twice what the Utah Department of Transportation initially offered for the land.
The verdict was reached last week, nearly six years after UDOT filed a condemnation suit for the family for control of the more than 230 acres.
UDOT offered about $2 million for the land, but an appraisal done this July said the land was worth $5.5 million.
Lyle McMillan, UDOT director of right of way, says the state doesn't agree with the jury award. He says the family was allowed to put on evidence about the worth of the property in 2003 and beyond and that may have prejudiced the jury.
Jim Soper, section chief in the Utah Attorney General's office, says his office is reviewing the case with an eye toward a possible appeal.
