SALT LAKE CITY -- Salt Lake City police are operating with few leads and answers after an overnight murder near the EnergySolutions Arena TRAX station downtown.

Police say they got a call at 12:07 a.m. and crews arrived at South Temple near 300 West to find a man, now identified as 27-year-old Emett Schad, in critical condition. He died after he was transported to the hospital.

"It's definitely a concern to us and we would definitely love to have the public's help if anybody did see anything unusual or anything at all in this location - we would love to hear from them," Sgt. Shawn Josephson said.

Investigators processed the block for clues early Thursday morning. Police do not know what happened and are looking for surveillance video in the area.

"We will definitely look into all of the possible information that we can obtain from either surveillance or individuals in the area as well as the evidence at the scene," Josephson said.

Though they are calling what happened a homicide, police have not disclosed a cause or manner of death -- saying overnight it was still under investigation.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to call them at 801-799-3000.
