HEBER -- An accident near Heber along the Provo Canyon claimed the life of an adult male and a young child.
The accident occurred at approximately 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon when a 29-year-old male driving a Chevy Blazer, identified as Jonathan Sorenson, crossed over the center lane and hit an oncoming car head-on, carrying two adults and two children, said Utah Highway Patrol Cpl. Todd Johnson.
Sorenson was transported to Utah Valley Hospital in Provo where he was pronounced dead. A 5-year-old boy, identified as Gage Olsen, was transported to Heber Valley Medical Center where he later died.
The driver of the car, Brandon Olson, 26, as well as a passenger, Jill Olson, 27, both of Heber City, sustained serious injuries, while another passenger, a 7-month-old female — who was in a car seat — escaped injury.
Johnson said it is not known why Sorenson's vehicle crossed over into the oncoming lane of traffic. All victims were using seatbelts or child restraints at the time of the crash.
