SALT LAKE CITY -- Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. is in Utah to attend his son's high school graduation and the unveiling of his portrait as governor of the state. He's not fund raising here, but he did participate in plenty of campaign-like activities in New Hampshire and California that generated a lot of national press.

He told the San Francisco Chronicle he's a true native of the bay area -- he was born in Palo Alto. He also described himself as a conservative problem-solver.

When questioned about climate change he says he does want a greener future but says foremost the county needs to get back on its feet economically.

On same sex marriage, he says he defends traditional marriage but says the country can do better in providing benefits to same sex couples.

Huntsman says his trips to New Hampshire and San Francisco were to find out if he could finance a campaign by reaching out to a broad network and through grassroots efforts. He told the Chronicle he feels pretty good after the visits.

On a lighter note, the Chronicle also took Huntsman to task for being a big fan of the ‘80s rock band REO Speedwagon.
