John Daley ReportingMotorists will wrestle with a major re-route tomorrow. That detour at the 2300 East on-ramp to westbound I-80 will especially impact commuters on the east bench.
The ramp is being lengthened so vehicles will have more time to successfully navigate what has been a nail-biting entrance to the 65 mile-per-hour freeway.
UDOT Spokesman Adan Carrillo says, "It is a safety issue, mainly. Right now the maximum speed they achieve is about 37 miles per hour, which puts them in a little bit of problem if they're not catching up in time."
Some nearby businesses, like the newly opened Blue Star Coffee, are a little edgy. Chad Empey, an employee there, says, "But change is always good, I guess. It's just the timing that kind of sucks."
They're prepared to adjust, though. "We're still open. Come on into the Blue Star. Juice, coffee, we'll hook you up. It's all good," Empey said.
This ramp closure is in effect now and will continue for the two months, so look for it to open around the end of September.
