Carole Mikita reporting Tonight's premiere of the Sundance Film Festival took place in Salt Lake City.
The Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center is a new location for Sundance, and Friday evening's premiere is not the only film that will be shown here: Rose Wagner will have daily screenings.
Festival-goers came to Salt Lake City, filling the seats of not Abravanel Hall, as in years past, but Rose Wagner. Even the governor and first lady were on hand to watch a British comedy called 'Kinky Boots'.
Julian Jarrold, Director, "Kinky Boots": I’ve sort of followed films that have been to Sundance over the years... I was never sure how 'Kinky boots' would go down really in America, so, it's just fantastic..."
That sentiment is echoed by business people who see theatre crowds needing places to eat.
Amy Coady, Squatters Pub, Dir. Sales & Marketing: "We've brewed a special beer, it's called Indie Alt, for independent films, so we hope some people come in and try it and have some fun here in downtown Salt Lake..."
Rich Beaney, Red Rock Brewing Co., General Manager: "We're part of that whole campaign for people coming in for Sundance, just to let them know it's not just Park City... Salt Lake City is a viable avenue for them to come to...”
Tonight it's the Brits, who know what Sundance can do for them.
Chiwetel Ejiofor, 'Kinky Boots' "It's a great festival, which is why I’m excited to show the film here for the film to be here and it's been a launch pad for a lot of great films over the years..."
Joel Edgerton, "Kinky Boots": “So many of the films I’ve enjoyed watching over the last decade particularly...have been films that have started out here at Sundance... And then have found their wider audience through the festival... "
The film has a PG-13 rating.
Salt Lake screening of Sundance films run through Jan. 29th here at Rose Wagner, the Broadway Cinema and at the Tower Theatre.
