(KSL News) A very large family in southeastern Utah is grieving tonight.
Last year we told you about the Winder family of Blanding. Tom and Terry Winder raised 18 natural and adopted children and served as foster parents for 37 others.
The governor honored them last year with the Gold Medal Marriage Award.
Today they were notified that their son, Nathan, was killed during combat operations in Iraq. He was shot through the neck by small-arms fire while serving as a Special Forces medic.
Flags were lowered to half-staff in Blanding today.
Two other Winder children served in Iraq and have returned safely.
