LAYTON -- A teenage longboarder was struck and killed by a teenage motorist in a Tuesday night accident.

Police Sgt. Curtis Salveson said the victim, 15-year-old Jamison Tuckett, was the going the same direction as the traffic flow at about 7 p.m. at 325 N. 2200 West.

A 17-year-old female motorist did not see Tuckett and struck him, Salveson said.

He was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Sgt. Andrew Joseph with the Layton City Police Department described the scene at the time of the accident: "Dark street, not a lot of ambient light. He was wearing dark clothing that may have contributed to the fact that she didn't see him."

Tuckett was not wearing a helmet.

Officers returned to the scene this afternoon to figure out exactly what happened. Police say it was a terrible and unfortunate accident, and it's unlikely charges will be filed against the driver

"It's difficult, like you say, for both families. It's just a tragic event, and it's going to be a difficult time in the community," Joseph said.

Students at Legacy Junior High, where Tuckett attended school, were told about their classmate's death during first period Wednesday morning. Many students wore yellow Wednesday in his honor.

Grief counselors were brought in to help students, and the district says several students have talked to them.

Tuckett was in ninth grade. He was on the honor roll and was a teacher's aide for a Spanish class.

Davis School District spokesman Chris Williams said, "He was a well known, likable kid. My understanding is he had a lot of friends at school. He was a good kid. Definitely will be missed, no question."

A Facebook page has been set up in remembrance of the teen. Friends have posted pictures and comments. One friend wrote, "We are all having a hard time with this news. We all love and miss you so much." Another said, "He was a great kid and will definitely be missed."

During lunch students are signing giant cards and writing messages of love and support for Tuckett's family.
