WEST JORDAN -- A Sandy family devastated by a house fire is getting some help from a galaxy far, far away.
Darth Vader and other characters from Star Wars joined forces Saturday to raise money for the family. They lost their home to a fire just before the holidays.
The homeowners belong to a Star Wars group called the Alpine Garrison. Fellow group members say when tragedy struck, they had to help.
"The family is just a great support for what we do and the causes that we are out there looking for," said family friend Christy Giles. "We had decided it was time to support one of our own."
The fundraiser allowed Star Wars fans to have pictures taken with characters from the popular franchise, as well as bid on items from the series. Organizers say they had a huge outpouring of support.
