SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- State health officials are studying whether the environment and genetics may combine to trigger asthma.
According to a state survey released today, childhood rates of the breathing disorder vary from city to city and even within neighborhoods.
The state health department used asthma data collected from 2003-2006.
The study totals are only a statistical computation, but indicate a possible link between genetics and environment is worth more study.
The interaction between genes and the environment -- genomics -- will be the focus of a health department conference next week. The 2nd Annual Asthma Genomics Conference will include discussions on how genomics could impact treating and managing asthma.
