(KSL News) Utah firefighters had a busy afternoon. Three different homes caught fire and one person died.

Firefighters arrived to heavy smoke throughout a house in Roy just before noon. They found the fire in an upstairs bedroom and an elderly woman on the bed. Crews took the woman outside and tried to resuscitate her, but she died on the scene. The cause of that fire is still under investigation.

In Plain City, a fire destroyed one house and displaced at least three families. The fire apparently started in the back yard, but investigators don't know what caused it. The fire also destroyed two boats. Surrounding neighbors have been evacuated. The families living in the homes that caught fire are now staying at City Hall.

Another fire in West Valley this afternoon engulfed the second story and a garage of one house. Firefighters worked to protect surrounding houses before getting the fire under control from above. One woman inside was able to get out safely but suffered minor smoke inhalation. She was treated and released. Fire crews are still investigating the cause of the blaze but believe it started in the garage. They estimate $160,000 in damages.
