(KSL News) Soldiers from the Utah National Guard are on their way to Iraq.
Today, 180 soldiers from the 116th Convoy Security Company of the Utah National Guard said goodbye to loved ones and the governor as they boarded a plane bound for Camp Shelby, Mississippi, for training.
They'll then go to Iraq where their mission is a dangerous one: providing convoy security for coalition forces in different areas of the country.
Adj. Gen. Utah National Guard Brian L. Tarbet says, "You always have a level of anxiety. The security force mission is one of our most challenging, and that's what they're going to do. But they're well led, well trained, and we're going to top that training off here in the next little while."
The soldiers will serve a year tour that they all volunteered to serve for. For half of the group, this is their second deployment to the Middle East.
