SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Utah isn't your average state.
When the state is compared to 21 average demographic factors like race, age, income and education, Utah ranks 14th in how close it compares to those national averages.
That's according to an analysis of census data by The Associated Press.
Illinois ranked first as the state that best mirrors the country. Oregon was second, followed by Michigan, Washington state and Delaware rounding out the top five.
West Virginia ranked 51st as the most atypical.
Utah's racial composition using the 2006 numbers is different from the nation as a whole. Utah residents are 84.1 percent white; 11.4 percent Hispanic; 1.4 percent black; and 2.6 percent Asian. While the country are 67.6 percent white; 15 percent Hispanic; 13.4 percent black; and 5 percent Asian.
