(Photo courtesy Val Larson)CLINTON -- A 52-year-old Sunset man was killed Monday evening when his truck was hit by a FrontRunner train.

It happened around 8 p.m. at 500 West and 1800 North in Clinton.

A UTA spokesman says the man drove his truck around the crossing gates and was trying to cross the tracks when the FrontRunner train slammed into the vehicle at top speed -- about 79 miles an hour. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The impact of the collision also injured some of the 18 passengers who were on the train. Most injuries were minor, but one person was transported to a local hospital.

A child's car seat was in the truck, but authorities say it appears the man was alone. They will, however, continue looking around the crash site just to make sure.

Police have not yet released the man's name.
