NEPHI, Utah (AP) -- Four Utah County men charged in a deer poaching case have been sentenced in state court.
Rex Creed Powell and Joseph M. Pantos each pleaded guilty to a count of third-degree felony wanton destruction of protected wildlife. The 38-year-old Powell and 43-year-old Pantos were each sentenced to 20 days in jail followed by stints on GPS monitoring. They also were ordered to serve three years' probation.
Twenty-two-year-old Chris K. Vance pleaded guilty to two class A misdemeanors in the case and 32-year-old Ryan G. Hoover pleaded no contest to a class A misdemeanor.
Vance was ordered to spend 20 days in jail and Hoover got 30 days in jail. They were each placed on two years' probation.
The four men were accused in the poaching of at least 18 deer from a limited-access hunting area devoted to trophy animals.
