LAS VEGAS (AP) -- The Nevada Supreme Court has withdrawn an earlier ruling in a key water rights case, giving new life to a proposal to build a massive pipeline to get water from the northeastern part of the state to Las Vegas.
In a unanimous decision issued Thursday, the court said the state's top water official should reopen review of Southern Nevada Water Authority applications to pump groundwater from five rural valleys.
It also said the authority won't be required to refile applications dating to 1989 for those water rights. Proponents and opponents of the water pipeline called the court order fair.
In withdrawing their own Jan. 28 ruling, the justices called reopening the decision-making process an "equitable remedy" to relieve confusion about water rights and plans.
