(KSL News) More than 89,000 children in Utah don't have health insurance. It's a situation parents don't have to endure.
That's why Representative Jim Matheson appeared at a rally today to let parents know about health care options for their kids.
Partnership for Prescription Assistance provided parents with information about public and private health programs, including CHIP.
The Children's Health Insurance Program is up for federal reauthorization this fall. CHIP uses federal dollars to provide health insurance to children ineligible for Medicaid.
"In Utah, 90 percent of the kids eligible for CHIP have at least one parent working now, but they still don't have access to health care," Matheson said.
Matheson expects Congress to reauthorize CHIP this fall and increase funding levels to provide for more children.
