SANDY -- Hundreds of women are meeting in Sandy over the next two days to learn how to be better bloggers. They say it's all about creating, sharing and telling their stories.

This is the first annual Casual Blogger Conference, and founder Elisa Scharton of Mormon Mommy Blogs says it was her dream to show others how to be better bloggers and share their talents and stories.

"You can take that hobby to the next level," she says.

Scharton says an estimated 85 percent of bloggers are women.

"We are chatty. We need that interaction with other women, and blogging brings back that Mayberry, ‘let's chat over the back fence' feel," she says.

Some men are attending the conference as well, which offers classes on blog designs, platforms, pictures, tips on how to be a better writer and even money-making strategies.

April Atwater with crazibeautiful.com is speaking on a panel on social media and blogs.

"Women want somewhere to go. They have their work and their home and they need a third place to go to. Online has become a third place for them to go and share and interact with other women who have similar interests," said Atwater.

Some of the blogs represented at the conference cover topics like gardening, cooking, sewing, crafting, books and parenting.

The conference capped out at 375 participants, but Scharton says the classes will be videotaped and made available afterward.

The conference is being held at the Miller Free Enterprise Center at 9750 S. 300 West in Sandy.
