GREEN RIVER -- Two people died in separate traffic accidents Wednesday afternoon.

The driver of a Ford Explorer lost control around 1:30 p.m. and ran off of Interstate 70 about 20 miles west of Green River.

Troopers say both the driver and his 3-year-old daughter escaped with relatively minor injuries. But the impact killed a passenger in the front seat -- 33-year-old Cornelio Garcia from Washington State.

Troopers say the SUV was going too fast for the wet and slippery road conditions.

A couple of hours later, a crash in Washington County killed a woman.

Troopers say a pickup truck skidded out of control on State Route 9 near Laverkin. The driver overcorrected and then crossed the center line, slamming into the van the woman was riding in.

A third vehicle -- a Jeep -- then crashed into the back of the pickup.

The drivers of the van and pickup both were taken to the hospital in serious condition.

The woman who died is identified as Suzanne Van Der Heijden, 24, from the Netherlands.
