PHOENIX (AP) -- Authorities say a US Airways pilot and flight attendant could face felony assault charges in the beating of a Phoenix-area high school baseball coach.

Phoenix police say 50-year-old Edward George Myer, of Park City, Utah, and 47-year-old Valerie Hayes were arrested Friday after Hayes' ex-husband was beaten in the parking lot of Desert Vista High School. He works at the Ahwatukee school as a volunteer baseball coach and has asked authorities not to release his name.

Police say Myer and Hayes are accused of targeting the coach after he threatened to tell the pilot's wife about their alleged affair.

Police are recommending that Maricopa County prosecutors charge Hayes and Myer with aggravated assault. They say Hayes, who lives in Phoenix with her four children, told investigators that she helped Myer plan the attack. A US Airways spokesman declined comment Tuesday about the pending criminal investigation.
