KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (NBC News) — A Knoxville waitress got an unexpected tip from a generous customer when she needed it most.
Khadijah Muhammad’s shift was business as usual until she returned to one of her tables to collect the receipt for a patron’s meal, which totaled $29.30. Muhammad retrieved the slip of paper only to see $1,075 written in the tip line.
Stunned, Muhammad said she nearly lost her balance. The good fortune couldn’t have come at a better time – when she had left home, she saw a notice on her door saying her electricity would be shut off if she didn’t make the mandatory payment by the next day.
The anonymous philanthropist left her a note accompanying the tip, reading “Jesus blessed us and we were led to give it to you. God Bless!”
"I just want to thank them,” Muhammad told NBC affiliate WBIR. “Thank them so much, because I'm humbled. I'm grateful. I do believe that God led you to me at this time in my life."
