SALT LAKE CITY — Two women from Utah were selected to be in the top 20 on the popular TV show “So You Think You Can Dance.”

Hailee Payne, a 20-year-old from Roy, and Alexia Meyer, a 19-year-old from Orem, were among those who advanced on the show on Monday. Both women are part of “team stage” for the show’s 12th season.

“My reaction to becoming a SYTYCD contestant was disbelief,” Payne told the show. “At first, I couldn't believe that after auditioning three times, I had finally made it. After the first initial shock, all other emotions came. Excitement and of course, gratitude.”

Payne has been formally trained in jazz, ballet, hip hop, lyrical, contemporary, tap and ballroom styles, according to her bio. She auditioned in Los Angeles.

Meyer, who auditioned in New York City, said she has been dancing since she was 3 years old. She trained at The Dance Club in Orem. She told the show she was shocked to find out she made it into the top 20.

“It truly was an incredible experience to see all the other dancers fight for a spot on the show,” she said. “Everyone is so talented. I feel blessed to be one of them.”
