KETCHUM, Idaho (AP) — An Idaho State Police patrol vehicle sustained about $1,500 in damage in a central Idaho collision with an elk. Authorities tell the Idaho Mountain Express that Trooper Dan Choma wasn't injured when his 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe collided with a cow elk about 7:40 a.m. Wednesday. The collision occurred on state Highway 75 south of Ketchum near East Fork Road.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Republican candidates running for statewide and legislative offices stopped at a public charter school while traveling on a campaign bus tour and were greeted by the student body. The Spokesman-Review reports that the Oct. 24 visit raises questions over whether the stop violated Idaho's education ethics code. The code forbids schools from promoting political candidates or political activities.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — First-time Democratic candidate Nels Mitchell is running against Republican U.S. Sen. Jim Risch, who is seeking a second six-year term. Mitchell has blasted the incumbent for being a career politician and exemplifying partisan politics. However, with more money and name recognition, Risch has held a strong lead throughout the campaign.

POCATELLO, Idaho (AP) — The nearly 100-year-old Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in eastern Idaho has received a new dome. The Idaho State Journal reports that a crane on Thursday lifted the new structure onto the church that was built in 1915 in Pocatello. Plans call for replacing the 12 temporary windows in the dome that represent the 12 apostles with the original stained glass from the old dome. The church is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
