MERRIMAC, Mass. — A Massachusetts girl known across the country as "Mrs. Bieber" has died after battling brain cancer for six years.

"Our darling Avalanna went to Heaven this morning. Oh Avalanna, the brightest star - you took our hearts with you, our greatest Love;(" was tweeted Wednesday morning from her official Twitter account.

Avalanna Routh had been battling atypical teratoid rhabdoid tumor (AT/RT), a rare form of brain cancer. She was diagnosed when she was only 9 months old.

The 6-year-old captured the attention of the nation in February after describing her dream date with pop singer Justin Bieber. National media picked up the story and friends and family campaigned on social networks to get the 6-year-old to meet the love of her life.

Avalanna's story caught the attention of Bieber, who flew the girl and her family to New York, where they played Candyland together, ate cupcakes and gave each other autographs. The meeting was a success.

"That was one of the best things I have ever done. She was AWESOME! Feeling really inspired now! #MrsBieber," Bieber tweeted afterward.

Avalanna's family confirmed to Fox 25 in Boston that the little girl had passed away.
