CLEARFIELD -- Thousands of people gathered at Hill Air Force Base Saturday to see some high-flying tricks and Air Force displays.

U.S. Air Force pilots flew aerial stunts while a jump team parachuted hundreds of feet to the ground during the 2009 Hill Air Force Base Open House and Air Show.

One spectator, Bruce Pomeroy, said, "We're just out here to show the kids all the aircraft and everything. We usually try to come out whenever there is a show."

Others attending the event have a direct connection to military service.

Guy Todero said, "My dad was at Iwo Jima in World War II in the Marines, and he survived that, thank goodness. My son is now in the Civil Air Patrol and is following in his grandfather's footsteps."

The event will continue Sunday. Gates open at 8 a.m. The air show and open house runs from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Admission is free.

UTA is offering free parking on Sunday at the Clearfield FrontRunner station (1250 S. State Street, Clearfield) for the open house and air show. A bus shuttle to and from the base will run throughout the day (8 a.m. to 8 p.m.) and will cost $2 per person, round trip.

FrontRunner trains will not run on Sunday.
