OREM — Orem native Aubree Oliverson, 18, is an extremely accomplished violinist.

Oliverson began playing the violin when she was just six years old. Since then, she has won The American Protégé International Piano and Strings Competition, soloed with the Utah Symphony, performed at Carnegie Hall, been featured on NPR’s “From the Top” four times and more, according to her bio.

Oliverson’s favorite part of playing the violin is when people tell her they were affected by her performance, she said.

“Those kind of moments are the most meaningful for me,” Oliverson said. “And it really puts into perspective why I put so much effort and time into doing what I do when people come up to me and tell me that my performance meant something to them.”

Her resume grew thicker when she became a 2016 YoungArts finalist and 2016 U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts.

When she was 15 years old, Oliverson began attending the Colburn Music Academy, a school in Los Angeles. She now goes to the Colburn Conservatory of Music, where she is trying to get a bachelor’s degree. She has a full scholarship.

Living away from home has been easier than she thought it would be, she said.

“There’s so much going on in LA so much vibrancy and so many opportunities that it kind of just consumed me when I moved here, and I’ve been loving it ever since,” Oliverson said.

Oliverson and her family perform in a musical group together called Moon Light. Moon Light has released six CDs. Moon Light is performing a free concert at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 21 at the Covey Center in Provo.

“This Moon Light Christmas Concert musically will be a mix of original arrangements of Christmas favorites, well-loved classical pieces, spiritual arrangements and music set to touching video,” Aubree Oliverson’s father, Stephen Oliverson, told KSL.com in an email. “We have six CDs produced from when Aubree was 8 to 16 years old — the latest is called ‘A Moon Light Christmas With Bach,’ and we will play some selections from that CD.

“There is seldom a dry eye by the end of a Moon Light concert — and concert-goers not only hear music performed in a style they have never experienced (unless they have attended before), but also at a world-class musical level," Stephen Oliverson said.
