WINDY CITY — "Mary Poppins" once told us, “Let’s go fly a kite.” But she obviously wasn’t in Cromarty, Scotland, when she recommended it.
Daniel Simpson gathered with his friends on a particularly blustery day in Cromarty and the trio decided to fly a kite. Luckily for us, the whole experience was documented and posted to YouTube by Simpson.
The video shows the friend (who gets to play the guinea pig) laying on his back while the other friend tosses up what looks more like a wind sock than a kite. The results are instant — the man is jerked upright and then lifted off his feet haphazardly. Then he gets dragged around the grass for a bit while they try to get the kite under control.
Almost more fun than watching a grown man fly from a kite is listening to his friend’s gleeful giggling during the whole ordeal. It’s pretty great and made me laugh right along with him.
Needless to say, I think Mary Poppins had the right idea with the floating umbrella. Seems like a more graceful mode of travel.
