PAGE, Ariz. — Two people were injured and three houseboats were destroyed in a fire Monday morning at Lake Powell.

The fire was reported at Lake Powell's Offshore Marina around 11:45 a.m. Three houseboats were destroyed in the blaze, and the owners of one of the houseboats suffered "significant burns," said Glen Canyon National Recreation Area spokeswoman Amanda Hammond.

The victims, whose identities were not immediately released, were treated at the scene and then airlifted to a hospital in Salt Lake City. One of them suffered burns over about 70 percent of their body, Hammond said, but both were in stable condition and expected to recover when they were transported.

National Park Service firefighters doused the blaze. The marina where it occurred is just outside National Park Service territory.

“Partnerships between our emergency responders and the medical evacuation crews in the area make it possible to provide lifesaving response in this remote part of the country,” Billy Shot, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area superintendent, said in a statement.

The cause of the fire wasn't known Tuesday afternoon, Hammond said. A cost estimate of the damage caused by the fire wasn't immediately available.
