SALT LAKE CITY — Baltimore Ravens receiver Steve Smith is looking for one final shot at a Super Bowl ring.

The longtime NFL wide receiver played in a Super Bowl with the Carolina Panthers, but never has stood on the platform and received the trophy. The Utah alumnus is in the twilight years of his career, and his Ravens barely squeaked into the playoffs.

However, the Ravens have put the AFC on notice after they stormed to a 30-17 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Wild Card round.

Smith caught five passes for 101 yards in the Ravens' win, while Highland alum Haloti Ngata made two tackles in his return from suspension. Steelers defensive back Brice McCain, a Utah graduate, made six tackles for Pittsburgh.

Utah alum Star Lotulelei made four tackles for the Carolina Panthers as the franchise advanced to the NFC divisional round with a 27-16 win over the Arizona Cardinals. Former Utah State Aggies running back Kerwynn Williams rushed for 23 yards for Arizona.

BYU’s Ezekiel Ansah made two tackles and a sack for the Detroit Lions. However, the Lions fell to the Dallas Cowboys, 24-20.

Next week’s matchups involving NFL players with Utah ties include Baltimore traveling to New England Saturday — a game that will be televised on NBC. Also, Dallas will travel to Green Bay, and Carolina will play at Seattle.

The other game next weekend involves Indianapolis and Denver.
