NORTH POLE — Christmas season is based on the best of the human experience: family bonding, hope, charity and last but not least, laughter.
Here are three Christmas movies your family will love that will have you laughing out loud with your families.
“Elf”
In “Elf,” Will Ferrell plays Buddy the Elf. Despite standing three times as tall as the rest of the elves, Buddy is shocked when he discovers that he is an adopted human child rather than an elf. When Buddy receives this information, he sets out on a quest to find his biological father in New York City. With this backdrop, there are numerous hilarious fish-out-of-water scenes as Buddy tries to get his crabby father to warm up. Turn on “Elf” if you are in the mood for a good-natured family friendly comedy.
Memorable line: Upon using an adult sized toilet for the first time, Buddy peers over the stall and excitedly exclaims to the next user of the lavatory “Hey! Have you seen these toilets? They’re ginormous!”
“A Christmas Story”
In “A Christmas Story,” Ralphie is a young boy who is trying desperately to convince his parents, teacher and Santa himself that he is responsible enough to receive a Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas. The film is narrated by an older version of Ralphie but told through the young boy’s eyes, which leads to many funny insights. The other odd ball characters in the film create some laugh out loud moments as well. Check out “A Christmas Story” to enjoy the magic of the season through the perspective of a young boy.
Memorable line: Ralphie commenting on his father’s constant battles with the furnace says “My father worked in profanity the way other artists might work in oils or clay. It was his true medium, a master.”
“The Muppet Christmas Carol”
In “The Muppet Christmas Carol,” Michael Caine takes on the iconic role of Scrooge, a bitter old moneylender who detests Christmas. On the night of Christmas Eve, Scrooge is visited by his former business partners who are in chains due to their deplorable behavior in their life. The ghosts promise Scrooge that three more ghosts (Ghost of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come) will visit him through the night. All three ghosts come bearing bad news for Scrooge if he does not change his ways in the legendary tale by Charles Dickens. Consider watching “The Muppet Christmas Carol” if you are a fan of the book and enjoy the humor of the Muppets.
