SALT LAKE CITY — One man was hospitalized with stab wounds and two others were arrested after a fight broke out at a downtown party early Saturday.

A Salt Lake police officer noticed the fight around 2:25 a.m. while stopped at a red light at 200 South and 300 West. When the officer pulled over to investigate, he found a man who had been stabbed and had $50 stolen from him, said Salt Lake Police Lt. Michael Ross.

The victim was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries to his abdomen and leg, according to Ross, but was expected to be OK.

"It's so nice to see officers as they're driving around be alert and watch for those things as this officer was," the lieutenant said.

Investigators did not yet know if the men knew each other.

Police booked Juan Antonio, 24, into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of aggravated assault and aggravated robbery. Nelson Tonida, 32, fled the scene, despite officers' commands to stay, Ross said. Officers found him hiding and arrested him for investigation of fleeing from police.
