NEW ORLEANS — Former BYU guard Jimmer Fredette has agreed to a one-year deal with the New Orleans Pelicans, according to various media reports.
ESPN.com's Marc Stein first reported the transaction. Fredette's contract will reportedly be at the league minimum.
Fredette was drafted by the Sacramento Kings with the No. 10 overall pick after earning National Player of the Year honors in 2011. The seldom-used point guard averaged 7.6 points per game as a rookie, but has seen his production and playing time steadily decline throughout his career.
The former BYU star was picked up by Chicago after the Kings waived him with a buyout clause in March following 2.5 years in Sacramento. Fredette averaged 4.0 points and 7.0 minutes in eight games with the Bulls.
The Pelicans have need of a 3-point shooter to replace free agent Anthony Morrow, who opted out of his contract after signing a three-year contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder, according to NOLA.com's John Reid.
