CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Emma and Wyatt were the most popular names given to newborns in Wyoming last year.

The Wyoming Department of Health says the name Wyatt jumped up to the top spot for boys followed by Liam, William, Lincoln and a three way tie of Daniel, Jackson and James. Jackson remains a popular name but has several spelling variants so it doesn't always end up in the top five.

Emma again topped the girls' names in 2016 and has been top 10 favorite for more than a decade. Harper, Olivia, Ava and Elizabeth followed Emma in popularity for girls.

In 2016, the number of Wyoming resident births decreased about 4 percent from 2015.

The greatest percentage decrease occurred in Washakie, Sublette, Big Horn and Converse counties.
