MORGAN HILL, Calif. (AP) — An official says a firefighter who was injured battling a blaze in Northern California's Santa Cruz Mountains has been released from the hospital.
California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection Battalion Chief Scott McLean said he did not know the nature of the firefighter's injury.
The fire has destroyed eight homes and nine outbuildings.
Officials had only announced one burned home before Thursday. It's not clear whether the destruction of seven more is new or just newly discovered.
The blaze has grown to about 6½ square miles and is 50 percent contained. It is still threatening about 325 structures.
Mandatory evacuations were lifted Wednesday for Santa Cruz County. Evacuation orders remain in effect for neighboring Santa Clara County, where most of the threatened structures are located.
