SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Issues of race and diversity in Mormonism bubbled up again after the church selected three white men from Utah last weekend to fill vacancies on a high-level governing body. That disappointed many Mormons who hoped for an infusion of diversity. Today a series of panels at the University of Utah will discuss the status of blacks in a religion that didn't allow men of African descent in the lay priesthood until 1978.

NORTH SALT LAKE, Utah (AP) — The city of North Salt Lake is considering restricting construction on some steep slopes after a landslide crushed a home last year. A proposed ordinance in the city would prohibit mapping land for building lots on any slope with a grade steeper than 30 percent. The Salt Lake Tribune reports the city planning commission will discuss it Tuesday. No one was injured in the landslide.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Prosecutors say a Layton man posed as a federal agent in an attempt to get VIP tickets to a Comic Con event in Salt Lake City. Jonathon Wall was indicted on federal charges. Prosecutors say Wall claimed he needed passes to catch a fugitive at the event where many attendees wear elaborate costumes.

DRAPER, Utah (AP) — The Utah Division of Oil, Gas and Mining says a gravel mine near Draper has been digging outside its permit area, moving across the Utah County line into Salt Lake County. The Salt Lake Tribune reports that officials with the Geneva Rock mine denied that they were conducting any unauthorized mining in their Point of the Mountain operation.
