RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Brazil's state-owned oil company has received the equivalent of more than $20 million that was recovered as a result of an investigation into a corruption-kickback scandal engulfing Petrobras.
The Federal Prosecutor's Office says in a statement that 69 million reals ($20.3 million) were returned to Petrobras on Friday.
The statement says the amount represents about 80 percent of the nearly $29 million repatriated in April from a Swiss bank account opened by former Petrobras executive Pedro Barusco. He's charged with receiving bribes from some of the country's top construction firms.
Prosecutors have said the corruption scheme at Petrobras involved at least $800 million in bribes and other illegal funds. Some of that money allegedly included bribes to Petrobras executives in return for inflated contracts.
