Outlook
Our next storm will come in two waves, and the first wave arrives tonight and will last throughout the day Friday. Initial precipitation type will be snow, then we'll see a changeover to rain Friday sometime mid-morning as snow levels rise. Valley snow from Salt Lake south will be less than an inch. Valleys north of SLC including Cache Valley could see up to 2". There is a scenario where Cache Valley and other areas along the Wasatch Back could get stuck in a cold pool and snow accumulations would be higher. There will be a lull Friday during the day before the next piece arrives in the evening. Moderate to heavy valley rain and mountain snow will last through Saturday morning and this is where majority of the accumulations will come. For the rest of the day Saturday, valley rain will taper off, but periods of snow will continue in the mountains. Valley rain totals will be half an inch to an inch. Snow totals: Benches/Wasatch Back snow 3-6", higher in Park City area (tricky forecast there dependent on snow levels), Northern Mountains generally 1-2 feet with up to 30" possible in the Cottonwoods, and central mountains 6-12 inches. Also on Saturday, winds will be very strong with gusts between 45-60 mph up in the mountains. After this storm, avalanche danger will likely be high. - Devan Masciulli, KSL Weather 12.4.25
