SALT LAKE CITY -- A group of people unhappy with Congressman Jim Matheson have started a grassroots movement to remove him from office.
The group, Utah Citizens' Candidate, initially started with a Craigslist ad seeking a suitable Democrat to run against Matheson in the Democratic primary in May.
Many in the group think Matheson has failed as a representative. Saturday, the group met at the Salt Lake City Library to select a new candidate.
"With no money, no backing of any political party we are selecting someone who we hire that we collectively select," said organizer Ashley Anderson. "I think it has been the most American experiment I have been a part of."
After several hours of questioning, the group voted and chose University of Utah professor John Weis to run against Matheson.
