SALT LAKE CITY -- Time is running out to take part in Utah's "Home Run" housing grant program.
The Utah Housing Corporation says the $6,000 grants available for Utahns purchasing newly constructed, never-occupied, single-family homes are more popular than anticipated. The corporation tells the Deseret News the grants might be gone by the end of the week. About 158 grants remain, according to the Deseret News.
Since the program went into effect in mid-March, the state has committed to more than 1,400 grants.
The program is funded by $10 million in one-time federal stimulus money.
At this point, the Utah Housing Corporation Web site says the Legislature has not approved more money for additional grants.
The grants were intended to help boost sales of new homes that were sitting on the market.
