WEST JORDAN — A man is dead after a house fire early Thursday.
Crews were called to a fire at 8556 S. Susan Way just before 1 a.m. Thursday.
"Our initial units arrived to find heavy, heavy smoke. We didn't see any flames, just heavy smoke coming from the home," West Jordan Fire Battalion Chief Travis Ball said.
Crews entered the home as quickly as possible to find a man inside; he was treated on scene then taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to Ball.
The man's name and age have yet to be released.
Tyrese Boone, KSLRandy Edginton, who lives nearby, said he noticed something unusual about the area as he was heading home early Thursday.
"We were getting my wife off from work and turned the corner right there at 12:35 last night, and it was like a fog across the street," he told KSL.
As Edginton was getting closer to his home, he noticed flames coming from a window of the neighboring house.
"As we pulled into the driveway, I got to about where we're standing now and can see the orange flame dancing in the window," he said.
Edginton and his wife called 911 about 12:50 a.m., then fire crews from West Jordan and neighboring agencies responded to fight the blaze.
Ball said no one else was inside the home, and the fire remains under investigation.
