OREM — A 46-year-old man was hit and killed while trying to cross a road in Orem, police announced late Friday.
Orem Police Chief BJ Robinson said that about 7:30 p.m., officers responded to the area of 700 N. State Street on reports of an auto-pedestrian accident.
Police said the man, who has not been identified, was crossing the roadway when he was hit by a car.
The driver "stopped immediately and called 911," Robinson said in a news release.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries, according to police. The Orem Police Major Accident Investigation team was called to the scene and closed a portion of the road while the investigation continued.
At this point, investigators do not suspect alcohol or any other substances played a factor in the crash, police said. They said the driver is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
Orem police said they extend their "deepest condolences" to the family and friends of the man who was killed.
