SPRINGVILLE — A man who had allegedly been drinking alcohol and using cocaine is accused of trying to kill another man during an argument.

Jose Rodriguez-Juarez, 39, was arrested early Monday for investigation of attempted murder, obstruction of justice, drug possession, shooting a gun and causing injury, disorderly conduct, carrying a gun while under the influence, being a restricted person in possession of a gun and public intoxication.

On Sunday, about 8:30 p.m., Springville police were called to a loud argument happening near 100 West and 100 North, according to a police booking affidavit.

"Officers heard yelling and observed a male in a bright orange jersey, later identified as Jose Rodriguez-Juarez, walking toward a vehicle parked on the west side of the property," according to a police booking affidavit.

Police lost sight of Rodriguez-Juarez, but then heard a gunshot come from the area where he was last seen, the affidavit states.

Officers detained one man later determined to be the victim, and then saw Rodriguez-Juarez enter a residence and refuse to come out, according to the affidavit.

"Eventually, SWAT responded and all occupants were safely evacuated or detained. The residence was cleared, and the surrounding area secured. A spent handgun casing was observed in the driveway of the residence," police noted in their affidavit.

After interviewing multiple witnesses, and "based on the entirety of the information and evidence obtained … Juarez made a statement indicating he was going to kill or hurt the victim. Juarez then entered the residence and returned with a handgun and fired a shot near the victim," police allege in their affidavit, which also notes that when questioned, Rodriguez-Juarez "made multiple statements that were found to be untrue" and was "under the influence of cocaine and alcohol."
