HEBER CITY — Three people have been arrested after a double stabbing during a quinceañera celebration Sunday in Heber City.

About 11:40 p.m., officers were called to the the Junction restaurant, 1268 S. U.S. 189.

"Upon arrival, officers were directed inside the restaurant, where they located a 34-year-old male with a stab wound to the abdomen," according to a statement from police. "A second victim, a 21-year-old male with a stab wound to the leg, was located outside the business and treated on scene by Wasatch County sheriff's deputies and Wasatch County Fire Department personnel."

The man stabbed in the abdomen was flown by medical helicopter in critical condition to a hospital in Salt Lake City. The man stabbed in the leg was treated at the scene and later released.

Police learned that the stabbings happened during a private quinceañera birthday party being held at the restaurant. A quinceañera is a traditional celebration in Latin American cultures for a girl's 15th birthday.

Heber City police were conducting a SWAT operation at a home in the area of 50 N. Mill Road in connection to the stabbing on Monday afternoon.

Heber City Police Sgt. Josh Weishar said 20 officers were at the home as the people inside refused to come out. Eventually, officers went in wearing ballistic shields after sending in drones.

Weishar said it's a home police are familiar with, and police believe there will be more arrests in the case. Eight people were taken in for questioning, and three people were arrested Monday, Weishar said.

The names of those arrested have not yet been released.
